STORIES IN THE CLASSROOM - THE SCHOOLS STORYTELLING EXCHANGE

Telling your stories - On line!

Stories in the Classoom is the Brainchild of Mike Prince, Head Teacher of Staveley Primary School, in Cumbria, UK. The exchange is designed to encourage schools to communicate by telling and exchanging stories and co-operating together in creating stories.

STORIES IN THE CLASSROOM

While the early thoughts were of a simple link between schools in the same region, it soon became obvious that on-line, there are no regional barriers! Why shouldn't a school in Mombasa share stories with one in Montana? Ottowa with Osaka? Athens with Anchorage? The potential for such links is limitless! Through the medium of story, schools can compare lifestyle and culture with an immediacy that is unavailable elsewhere!

Dan Keding, a very fine American storyteller has written an original story in the traditional style with which he frequently closes his programme. It is called, 'The Two Warriors'.
The last line reads,...'Grandmother always said, you cannot hate someone when you know their story'.

If that is true, perhaps the 'Schools Storytelling Exchange' may go a little way towards reducing much of the hate in the world.

We will be contributing our own ideas as the project develops, but any school wishing to participate is invited to
